COMP-LAW project
Capacity Building in Comparative and EU Law in Higher Education Institutions of Mongolia
Around the world, democracy and rule of law are in retreat, and authoritarianism is on the rise.
The number of non-democratic countries now outnumbers the number of democratic countries for the first time in 20 years. And the percentage of the world’s population living under democratic regimes has sunk to the lowest point since 1991.
Many post-transitional constitutional democracies are experiencing severe constitutional problems. The COMP-LAW project aims to raise the awareness of Mongolian law students and young researchers on the importance of rule of law through teaching activities, seminars and workshops which will take place in Mongolia and in Italy.
It focuses at building integrated, multidisciplinary courses through the development of knowledge in Comparative Public Law, EU and International Law topics; and introducing best practices and new research methods; capacity building of academic staff in pedagogical and methodological approaches to design a new curriculum; jointly developing courses; and to forge collaborations between HEIs in Partner and Programme countries. The project will target both students and teaching staff, and also young researchers to strengthen their research/teaching capacity to increase their ability to undertake high-quality research in the field of Comparative Public Law, EU Law and International Law discipline.

For academic staff and young researchers, introducing best practices, new research methods, innovative pedagogical and methodological approaches to advance the quality of teaching and research activities is the key.
As for students, they will be gained advanced knowledge in the field of comparative public law, EU law and international law by attending the proposed courses by the project and they will be invited to the University of Milan for two weeks to attend classes and seminars.
By strengthening research/teaching capacity of partner universities in Mongolia, and by increasing their ability to undertake high-quality research, the project aims not only to improve the quality of teaching and research activities, but it also enables communication and collaboration with the wider community of stakeholders.
Ultimately, students will benefit from the proposed teaching activities that are expected to impact on their being employed in the national and international labour market.
